We will be taking a public bus (El Paso Limo Service) from Albuquerque, NM Terminal
1611 Central NW for departure at 11:00 on Saturday, February 19th, 2011 arriving at the El Paso Terminal "Oregon Street", 720 S. Oregon St. If you are leaving a vehicle, do not leave any visible articles in your car that may entice others to do bad things to it.  I don’t believe there is parking at the terminal so you may have to use lots at Old Town or in the close vicinity.  We recommend someone drop you off and pick you up and not to leave your vehicle.

We will be returning around 09:45 PM on Sunday, the 20th.

Upon arrival in El Paso, we will be staying at the Gardner Hotel (Hostel) in the downtown area.  All volunteers will be walking from the bus station to the hotel so wear comfortable and appropriate shoes.  It is about a ¾ mile walk.  Plan on upto four people per room.

What to bring?  Bring your travel personal items as well as a refillable water bottle, a medium to heavy jacket.  Layers are always good.  Lows are typically in the 30’s and Highs in the 60’s.  Check the weather forecast the day before we are leaving.  Bring comfortable walking shoes as you’ll be doing a lot of walking.  A hip bag or day pack may be helpful for carrying your water bottle and personal items while walking.  You’ll need a pen and small paper pad for taking notes and your Amigos handbook.  Cell phones can be carried but must be turned off while on activities.  If cold and/or wet weather is expected you may want to plan for a knitted cap and rain gear.

Additional items to bring:

Saturday morning, bring a brown bag lunch for yourself unless you prefer to eat prior to departure.  You may eat this and other snacks on the bus but all trash, spills and crumbs must be cleaned up by yourself.  Leave the bus interior cleaner than you found it!  Remember to be respectful of others with noise level and comments that may be overheard.

Optional Items:

Camera, sun hat, personal spending funds, personal snacks, Spanish/English dictionaries, etc.

Homework:  You are welcome to visit the El Paso links and bring maps of the downtown area for your trip if you would like.

Amigo’s specific items:  Maintain a neat and orderly personal area.   Maintain track of your gear and neatly stow your gear at your area when not in use.  Mark your name on personal items which may be easily confused with those of others.  Do not venture out by yourselves.  Stay in groups, on task and absolutely DO NOT go into Mexico.
